An adorable animated Valentine’s advert for card brand thortful

With lockdowns and social distancing in full effect, it’s been a busy time of year for card companies. Despite being physically separated, people still want to share the love with their friends and family. That’s where greeting card marketplace thortful comes in.

thortful came to Happy Hour looking for a new integrated campaign for Valentine’s Day that involved TV, radio, and social media advertising. We came up with a lighthearted new look for their ad to help them cut through the noise and highlight a few of their funny Valentine’s cards.

thortful champion independent designers and we wanted to reflect this idea with a hand-crafted aesthetic and feel to the ad. The cheerful voiceover was by Simon Bird, a recognisable voice for our UK audience.

“Thortful have been a great new client to work with,” says Tom George, Happy Hour CEO.

“They briefed us to concept and produce a responsive campaign that could work across TV and a variety of platforms. It had to suit their identity and tone of voice, echoing the kind of content you’ll find on, content with a slightly cheeky sense of humour, while also giving them a distinctive look and stand out in the category. We’re really pleased with how the campaign has delivered on all their objectives.”

The new animation style suits the cross-platform nature of this campaign and has been designed to be easy to adapt for colourful social content, and enables us to hero card content in different social channels

The campaign has now seen extensions across Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, with the creative evolving with each execution.
