4 reasons to make video a big part of your social media strategy

With Facebook’s video posts receiving 8 billion daily views and Instagram increasing the duration of video ads to 1 minute it’s clear that video content is a social media marketing tool that’s here to stay. When used alongside traditional TV advertising and content marketing, videos shared on your social channels can go a long way in boosting brand awareness and increasing engagement with your audience. Video has the ability to demonstrate your products, answer your viewer’s questions, show behind the scenes glimpses of your organisations and launch new products. Used well your visuals and script can become synonymous with your brand and even your industry.

Here are just 4 reasons why you should add video to your social media content mix:

1. It turns viewers into consumers

Video content is powerful, and when social media feeds are dominated with video and images it’s the best way to ensure your content doesn’t get lost in the scroll. When structured well video ads powerfully present your call to action, demanding a response and directly engaging with the viewer. If viewers are presented with a video production that is beautifully shot, emotive, inspiring, aspirational or humourous then they can’t help but click.

Want some stats? Well ok then…

  • Shoppers who view video adverts are 1.81 times more likely to purchase than non-viewers
  • Retailers cite 40% increases in purchases as a result of video campaigns
  • 57% of smartphone users watch product video in stores
  • 51.9% of marketing professionals worldwide named video as the content with the best ROI

2. It increases your brand’s reach

Great video productions encourage sharing, if you can make an ad that connects and resonates with your audience they will want to share it with their networks. You then have a multitude of free brand ambassadors spreading your message further. This is how great video ads go viral and social media is the place where content is shared.

Search engine results pages also favour video content which, research has shown, command more attention than other listings.

3. You can measure its success

Facebook has improved its analytics offering, giving you data and metrics to evaluate even more extensively the success of your video content. You can now collect data on views, including partial views, the average view duration, how many people viewed with sound on versus sound off as well as daily breakdowns of key metrics. Twitter also gives you data on your tweets including videos or promoted ones, whilst Instagram for Business provides a dashboard with data about impressions, reach and engagement for your video ad campaign.

4. It’s not as expensive as you might think

Setting aside how much it costs to create the video production, all of which very much depends on length, location and story. Putting video content on your brand’s social channels is free! You can post video ads to your company Twitter account, Facebook Page and Instagram account and it will be available to view by your networks and anyone searching for the hashtags you may have used.

If you want to expand your offering further and invest in social advertising then Facebook and Twitter both offer very reasonably priced advertising packages, allowing you to dip your toe into video advertising without significant investment. Instagram is still the most expensive social network for paid advertising, but its services are being expanded so expect prices to reduce in the near future.

Mother knows best in latest SunLife DRTV campaign

Posted in: DRTV

Happy Hour are pleased to showcase our latest DRTV commercial campaign for SunLife, ‘Dad and Daughter’ which is now airing.

This campaign is a continuation of our previous ‘Mother and Daughter’ commercial. Both advertise SunLife’s Guaranteed Over 50 Plan and feature the same cast of characters.

Directed by Jason Edwards this live-action commercial, which started airing on TV in March, picks up right where the last one left off. We feel as if we’ve just left the daughter’s conversation with her mum in the kitchen and are now witnessing her conversation with her dad. Thanks to her previous conversation she is able to share with her dad all the benefits of the Over 50 Plan that Mum has taken out, persuading him to follow suit.

The cosy, familial tone of the advert was perfect for representing a difficult but necessary conversation many families need to have. It also conveyed a lot of important information about the plan; it’s quick and easy to apply for, it’s the UKs most popular and, of course, you’ll receive the all-important free pen!

All production and post-production was completed by Happy Hour, we love the homely, intimate feel of this advert and look forward to working with SunLife again in the future.

SunLife is one of the UKs most well-known insurance providers, their products include over 50s life insurance, funeral plans, life insurance, ISAs and will writing service. They’re also part of AXA one of the biggest insurance companies in the world.

Happy Hour and Animal Friends Insurance, a winning combination

Posted in: Animation, DRTV, TV Adverts

Happy Hour are pleased to showcase the latest in our successful series of animated adverts for Animal Friends Pet Insurance. This latest stop-frame animated advert, released a few months ago, features old favourites Girlie the Cat and Cracker the Dog this time in the role of race commentators, explaining why Animal Friends is a ‘winning combination for you and your pet’.

The humourous advert uses a race between a rag tag assortment of characters to highlight Animal Friends’ status as a ‘champion insurer’

The race is between characters that will be all too familiar to pet owners, we have a lazy ginger cat who doesn’t even start the race, an elderly dog representing the fact that Animal Friends covers pets of any age, a competitive poodle, hyper puppy and snooty cat.

This advert was produced by our in-house team of animators in Bristol, who are highly experienced in stop-frame, 2D and 3D animation.

Animal Friends is an award-winning insurance company started in 1998 by Elaine Fairfax as a way to raise money for various charitable causes. Offering cover for cats, dogs and horses, they also support over 300 different animal welfare charities and have donated over £2.5million to good causes so far.

SunLife ask ‘Where’s Mum?’ in latest Family Insurance campaign

Posted in: DRTV

Our latest campaign for SunLife has now gone live, ‘Where’s Mum?’ is an emotive advert illustrating the importance of financial planning to ensure a secure future for your family. The campaign highlights the benefits of SunLife’s family life insurance, with a voiceover from an absent mum leading to a twist halfway through.

Director Colin McIvor explains the reason behind his vision for this campaign, ‘Where’s Mum?’ is a poignant, emotive concept relying on the viewer to relate and react. My primary task as director was to tap into a Mother’s universal instinct to care for her ‘own’. Therefore I had to draw strong, yet delicately balanced performances as ultimately the Mum is still around and the concept depends on the cast’s believability. Using subtle post zooms and tracking, we push in on the children’s vulnerable eyes and faces to help draw out the poignancy of the seemingly absent mum.”

Produced by Happy Hour Productions and featuring a video within the video this advert marks the second time we’ve collaborated with Director of Photography, Mark Stubbs this year. He helped create the perfect atmosphere of a cosy evening at home as well as a contrasting sunny holiday video. Our team were lucky with the weather on location, despite it being freezing the sun was shining.

For this advert every element helps tell the story and speak to the viewer, the cast, locations, wardrobe and cinematography all contributed to a relatable family, whose situation would resonate with viewers.
