Happy Hour are pleased to showcase our latest cinema advert, it marks our first campaign with stationery giant Staedtler, and with creative agency DB Communications. The advert ‘Prodigy’ depicts a tender moment of friendship between an architect grandfather and his grandson, united by their shared love of drawing with their trusty Staedtler pencils, and the creativity that inspires.
The ad was shot on location in Bristol and was the first time we have worked with Director of Photography Mark Stubbs, whose work includes adverts for Ikea. This Nordic look was used for this advert giving it a clean, contemporary feel in line with the re-vamped carbon neutral pencils.
The family friendly advert highlights the Noris Colour tag line ‘the next generation of colouring pencils.’ Which was also played upon in the closing lines, it’s good to see kids who are “too often drawn to screens” still enjoying drawing on paper.
Colin McIvor, the director of the advert explained the premise, “Staedtler Noris ‘Prodigy’ was a simple, clear and confident brief – to capture a life memory in a moment of close friendship across the years through their love of creating art. Essentially I wanted an elegant, free and easy ‘quiet camera’ allowing the performances from the colouring pencils and the actors to live front and centre. All departments excelled to deliver an extremely professional and enjoyable on set experience resulting in a distinctive, slick cinema commercial to be proud of.”

Staedtler is a stationery giant, formed in 1835, its products are synonymous with quality and innovation. Their Noris pencil range is recognisable worldwide especially due to its popularity in schools.
